Karawatha Home
Our family has made their home at Karawatha Park, our farm on the edge of the pastoral stations of the striking Gawler Ranges, for four generations.
This is where Karawatha Home was born; at the top of the Eyre Peninsula, amongst the native flowers and saltbush, the eucalyptus and mallee scrub, the fruit trees and back-garden herbs, the golden wheat and barley crops that have sustained our family - and families like ours - for more than 70 years at the ‘back of Buckleboo’.
The creator of Karawatha Home is Barb - farmer, mother, photographer, maker - who has been pouring beautiful candles and blending fragrances in a quiet little corner of the family farm for years now.
Beyond Karawatha Home and Karawatha Park, Barb is a founding member and one of the driving forces behind Workshop26 and the host and curator of the beautiful Alpha House, boutique BnB accommodation in Adelaide.
Karawatha Home is sold in quality retail stores, and within our flagship store in a striking shipping container deep within the incredible Workshop26.
About the process
It takes a little over a fortnight to produce one of your favourite candles from start to finish.
In a little corner of the homestead at Karawatha Park – in an old cement water tank, if you can believe it – is Barb’s studio; near enough to the farm office and the UHF radio to be summoned to the paddock at a moment’s notice, far enough from the back door to find peace and quiet, is Barb’s studio.
Over a cup of tea and a podcast or two, Barb melts wax and distils fragrance and begins the delicious alchemy that creates your favourite blends. Rows and rows of amber apothecary jar candles line the salvaged timber shelves to cure. The smell that wafts to the back verandah and across the garden when the studio doors are open is incredible.
Barb's candles and home fragrances are handmade on the family farm with love, and we hope that you feel that when you unwrap your very own.
